austin+abbott candle co. was founded by Julie McNamara, a nostalgic home-lover who learned the importance of smell memory when a devastating fire destroyed her family’s home.

After the fire, she moved into temporary housing with her husband, daughter, and two dogs, while their house at the corner of Austin and Abbott Street was rebuilt. She realized that rebuilding a home isn’t just about picking new fixtures and furniture — home, and the nostalgia that goes with it isn’t just a place you build, it’s a sensory experience you create. Julie needed to replace the memories of the toxic fire smell with good ones, and this began her journey of creating candles and using the sense of smell to transport her family to happier memories of home.

All of austin+abbott's candles are named after a street reminding her of a moment in time worth celebrating. Streets, Roads, and Avenues that she is excited to share with all of you.
